Why use Postman?

Postman lets you build and try API requests in a visual interface. You fill in the parts of a request, send it, and inspect the reply.

Your assistant gives you a long command to check your signup service. You want to see what each piece does before connecting it to your app.

In Postman, choose GET to retrieve data, enter the service’s endpoint, and select Send. The reply shows the request’s status and any data returned. In our fictional example, you can see Alex in the signup list.

Requests can include extra information in headers, and submitted data in a body. Postman gives these their own fields, making them easier to inspect. You can save the request and try it again later.

curl can send the same request from a terminal. The interactive example here shows the two approaches; it is a simplified simulation.

GEThttps://api.example.com/signups

The response will appear here.

Success in Postman does not guarantee success in your website. Browsers enforce rules such as CORS, which controls whether a page can read responses from another origin, such as a different domain.
